Capsule machines have fewer parts than espresso machines, but they run many cycles a day. These are the faults we deal with most on Nespresso models.
Pump runs but no coffee comes out
When the pump buzzes and nothing reaches the cup, the cause is usually an airlock, a blocked capsule needle or scale in the heating block. We prime the system, clear the needle and descale, and test the pump if flow doesn't return. Before calling, check the tank is seated firmly and run a cycle without a capsule to see whether water flows.
Water leaking from the capsule area
Leaks around the capsule holder usually come from a worn or displaced seal, or from capsules that don't sit correctly. We inspect the seal and chamber and replace worn parts. Some compatible capsules are sized slightly differently, so try an original capsule to compare.
Vertuo head won't lock or unlock
Vertuo Next and Vertuo Pop machines lock the head with a motorised mechanism. If it stops part-way or won't release, we check for a stuck capsule, then the motor and locking mechanism. Never force the head; switching the machine off and on usually releases the mechanism safely.
Vertuo not reading capsules
Vertuo machines read a barcode on the capsule rim to set the brew. If the machine won't start or brews the wrong size, the reader may be dirty or faulty, which we clean or replace. Wiping the capsule holder and the area around the reader with a soft, dry cloth is a safe first step.
Coffee cold or lukewarm
Lukewarm coffee almost always means scale in the thermoblock. We descale thoroughly, and if temperature still doesn't recover we test the heater and sensor. Running a hot water cycle before your first coffee also warms the system and the cup.
Lights blinking and machine won't brew
Blinking lights can mean the machine wants descaling, the head isn't fully closed, or an internal fault has been detected. We work through the causes described in your model's manual before opening the machine. Note the pattern and colour of the blinking, because your manual links each pattern to a specific cause.
Weak or watery coffee
If capsules aren't pierced properly, water bypasses the coffee. We check the piercing blades or plate and the capsule holder for wear. Also check you are using capsules made for your system, as mismatched capsules won't be pierced correctly.
Lattissima milk not frothing
The Lattissima milk jug and frothing head clog with dried milk. We clean the milk circuit, replace worn seals and confirm the steam supply is healthy. Running the clean cycle straight after each milk drink stops residue from drying inside.
Capsules getting stuck
Capsules that jam in the chamber are usually caused by debris or a worn ejection mechanism. We clear the chamber and check that capsules drop into the container freely. Emptying the used-capsule container before it is full prevents most jams.
Office Nespresso Professional faults
Momento, Zenius and Aguila machines work through large volumes. We service water circuits, heating, capsule handling and milk systems to keep office downtime short. Knowing roughly how many drinks the office makes each day helps us suggest a sensible service interval.
